Award for best stage design from FETEN’08 for The Imaginary Book

The Imaginary Book has won the award for best stage design at the Gijón European Fair of Theatre for Children.

Carles Pijuan is the company’s designer. A fine art graduate, he is the man behind all the stage design for the company’s shows.
The European Fair of Theatre for Children was held in Gijón for the seventeenth time, with a large number of programmers and a total of 55 companies from Argentina, Spain, Belgium, France, Portugal, Italy, Germany and Japan, who performed in different venues at FETEN 2008 between 24 and 29 February.
The Imaginary Book was performed on Tuesday 26 February at 7pm at the Jovellanos Theatre and had a good response from the audience and the programmers who attended.
The prize for the best show went to the play ¿Por qué lloras, Marie? (Why Are You Crying, Marie?) from the Marie de Jongh company. Other award-winners included La arena y el agua (Sand and Water) from the company La Galera Encantada with the award for best script and best male performance for Hector Presa. Poisson Pecheur (The Fishing Fish) from Le Lutin Teatro de Imágenes Company took the award for best female performance. The award for best director went to Maruja Gutiérrez and Pedro López for Nena... (Girl...) from the Titiritran Teatro Company and Jose Luis Luque for La isla de los pájaros (Bird Island) from the Menchosa Teatro and Elfo Teatro companies. Petites històries del cor (Little Stories from the Heart), from the Theatre Zigomars company took the award for best puppet show and Pedra a pedra (Stone by Stone), from the company El teatre de l’home dibuixat, won the award for best small-format show. Finally, La Enana Naranja company, obtained a special mention from the jury for the originality of their entry.
The jury was made up of Laura Iglesia, an author and theatre director; Ferran Baile, member of the International Children’s and Youth Theatre Association; Gonzalo Centeno, from the Spanish Network of Publicly-Owned Theatres, Auditoriums and Circuits; Olga Margayo, a theatre director and actress, and José Luis Paraja, as secretary of the Feten 2008 jury.
This year was the fourth time La Baldufa had taken part in this fair. The highlight of its entries was in 2001, when the company won the award for best show and best stage design with The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.
